'The Middle Ages: A Big Picture', Prof. Oleg Voskoboynikov's New Book
Prof. Oleg Voskoboynikov presented his new popular book 'The Middle Ages: A Big Picture' at the Non-Fiction Bookfair in Moscow
Oleg Voskoboynikov, a professor at the Faculty of Humanities at HSE and the head of the Masters in Medieval Studies programme affiliated with the Centre for Medieval Studies, presented his new popular book 'The Middle Ages: A Big Picture'. This book provides a conceptual overview of medieval history and, at the same time, pays a close attention to case-studies, details and various vignettes. A peculiar feature of Prof. Voskoboynikov's book is a particular focus on art-historical material, illustrated by his own photographs taken over more than twenty years.
The panel, which included the dean of the Faculty and the head of the Centre Prof. Mikhail Boytsov, Dr Aleksandr Sidorov, Dr Svetlana Yatsyk, as well doctoral students and graduates of the faculty, debated Prof. Voskoboynikov's vision of medieval history, focusing, in particular, on the contemporary cultural and political relevance of 'the Middle Ages'.
