The Language of Gifts. The Rules of Symbolic Communicatuin in Europe (1000–1700)

Exchanging gifts was an important means of communication both in the Western and Eastern parts of Europe for the period under review. The participants of this joint international project demonstrate that the medieval "language of gifts" was rich of symbolism and was sophisticated enough for accurately expressing a variety of very different meanings.
The project was succesfully completed in 2016 by publication of a collective volume "The Language of Gifts. The Rules of Symbolic Communicatuin in Europe (1000–1700)" edited by M. Boytsov and G. Althoff.
