International conference 'Liturgy and Hymnody in Byzantium Across Centuries and Spaces'

On 2223 November 2018 the Centre for Medieval Studies, School of History, HSE is delighted to be running the international conference 'Liturgy and Hymnody in Byzantium Across Centuries and Spaces. This event brings together scholars from across a spectrum of specializations, affiliations, and academic traditions to look at Byzantine liturgy and hymnography across a consider'able time span. Through talks and exchange of various kinds of academic expertise, we aim to seek new insights into the historical development of Christian liturgical ritual, hymn-writing and singing from the earliest times into late Byzantine epoch.

Participants include Professor Harald Buchinger (University of Regensburg), Professor Stig Frøyshov (University of Oslo), Dr Alexander Lingas (City University, London), Dr Thomas Arentzen (Dumbarton Oaks Library/University of Oslo), Dr Roman Krivko (University of Vienna), Dr Alexandra Nikiforova (St Tikhon University, Moscow), Dr Sergey Kim (Moscow Theological Academy), Dr Ksenia Morugina (Higher School of Economics/Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow), Dr Mikhail Zheltov (Moscow Patriarchate Graduate School), Dr Arkadiy Avdokhin (Higher School of Economics, Moscow).
