About us

The Centre for Medieval Studies was established in 2012. Today, the Centre is a major academic hub which brings together scholars, students, and visiting academics who work on a wide range of topics in medieval history of Western Europe, Byzantium, and Old Rus (medieval Russia). We lay equally large emphasis on research and teaching activities, as students, already in their undergraduate years, are encouraged to engage with the ongoing research projects. The academic staff of the Centre are a young and dynamic team of scholars with a broad spectrum of specialisms, coming as they do from the field of medieval history, Byzantine studies, and Russian medieval history. Ultimately, the Centre seeks to establish itself as a place which houses comparative studies of historical developments across Europe broadly conceived in the period between late antiquity and the modern age.
